123 Wynford Drive in Toronto, is a collaboration between Kirkor Architects and Moriyam Teshima Architects. This exciting development features a dynamic two-tower mixed-use concept standing at 55 and 48 storeys with a shared underground.
At the heart of this project stands the Japanese Cultural Centre, a remarkable structure designed by the distinguished Toronto-based architect Raymond Moriyama in 1963. Recognized as a Heritage building, the preservation of its cultural significance is at the forefront of the projects objectives. This has been achieved through a combination of techniques including in-situ retention, panelization of the historical precast structure, retained and reinstalled elements, and a complete preservation of the lobby achieved through moving the historical building during the construction process. This innovated approach to heritage conservation integrates the 48 storey tower above, giving new life to the site for future generations.
The natural ravine, a unique feature of the site with historical elements, has been woven into the design as an outdoor space accessible to both the residents and the broader community, creating a link between urban living and nature.
