At the southwest corner of Bathurst and Richmond Streets, Reside on Richmond pays homage to Toronto’s architectural legacy by preserving and showcasing a two-and-a-half-storey brick heritage building dating back to 1875. This structure, one of the earliest mixed-use commercial buildings in the area, offers a rare glimpse into the city’s nineteenth-century streetscape.
Rather than isolating the heritage element, KIRKOR’s design incorporates it directly into the base of the new 33-storey mixed-use residential tower. A stepped podium surrounds the heritage building, using its original proportions, materials, and detailing as inspiration. The podium’s brick façade and setbacks along Bathurst and Richmond create a respectful transition, allowing the heritage structure to remain visually prominent and contextually grounded. This approach preserves the building’s integrity while embedding it within a contemporary urban framework, bridging Toronto’s rich past with its evolving future.
