Applewood Towns is a strategically designed urban townhome community in Mississauga, located on Hickory Drive near the intersection of Burnhamthorpe Road and Dixie Road within the established Applewood neighbourhood. As architects, we approached the project as an opportunity to deliver a contextually responsive, family-oriented infill development that balances contemporary living with enduring architectural character.
We organized the development into five carefully planned residential blocks arranged around a landscaped central courtyard, which serves as the heart of the community. This shared space, anchored by a children’s play area, fosters a sense of connection, encouraging outdoor activity and neighbourly interaction within a calm, residential setting.
The architectural expression reflects a refined blend of traditional and contemporary design, combining clean modern lines with timeless detailing, including articulated brickwork, mouldings, and stone accents. This approach creates a cohesive streetscape that feels both familiar and elevated, reinforcing the identity of the Applewood community while introducing a renewed level of design quality.
Each townhome is designed to enhance the everyday living experience, with large windows that maximize natural light and open-concept layouts that support flexibility and comfort. Our planning focused on creating functional, well-proportioned interiors that respond to the needs of modern families while maintaining a sense of warmth and livability.
Through careful attention to site planning, architectural detailing, and community integration, Applewood Towns establishes a strong model for urban townhome development in Mississauga. The project was recognized with an Award of Merit for Community Significance and Execution at the 2025 Mississauga Urban Design Awards, reflecting its contribution to thoughtful, community-oriented design.
